LOF History
In 1992, former national champion waterski jumper Joel Zeisler received a call from a Vietnam veteran requesting waterski lessons. Zeisler happily agreed, eager to help a veteran reconnect with a sport he had loved prior to his service. At the end of the conversation, the veteran shared a life-changing detail: a rocket-propelled grenade had claimed his vision in the war, leaving him completely blind.
Joel embraced the challenge with determination and compassion. Through his guidance and innovative coaching, the veteran regained the ability to ski independently and achieved remarkable success, winning gold medals at both the World and US Disabled Waterski Competitions.

This transformative experience planted the seeds for what would become LOF Adaptive Skiers. Joel took a leap of faith that day, sparking a legacy of empowerment and inclusion. Today, LOF continues to inspire and enable countless individuals to achieve what they once thought was impossible, opening doors to freedom, confidence, and joy on the water.
